Great Strides // September Saturdays

Hola!

Today was quite busy, but fun! We started the day by attending the 2012 Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis at the University of West Georgia. My team, Drew's Crew Two, has been attending the walk at UWG for a few years now and each year the event grows and grows.... as does our final total raised!

We are called Drew's Crew Two after the parent team, Drew's Crew, that walks in Atlanta every year in the spring. "Drew" (aw, name in quotes. Why is that cute?) is one of my longest friends. Actually, that's a lie. She is probably the shortest. BADUM-BUM. By "longest" I mean, actually, that I have known her for a long, long time. We met in the 5th grade and she's been one of my fave people since. Drew has cystic fibrosis and it's the mission of Great Strides to fundraise for a CURE.

DC2 is made up of myself, my hubby (another Drew, aw), my parents, my brother, and his g/f Katie. We walked ourselves silly and mom and I even participated in the Cupid Shuffle dance at the end of the walk, with approx. 5 other people ha, it was eventful. We raised over $1,000.00 this year, adding to the $56,000+ this particular walk pulled together. It's just one out of many walks throughout the year. It's a great cause to be part of and I am confident that some day, we WILL find a cure for everyone who has CF.

After the walk, and a quick change of clothes at home, I met my mom to go to the September Saturday's event in The D. The courthouse hosts this in (SURPRISE!) September of every year. Usually it's on all four Saturdays in the month, but this year was just today and last weekend. Today's was mostly local crafters and booths that they set up and of course a lot of food booths and kiddie rides. It was a good time, except that mom was stung by a bee and someone dinged her car when they opened their car door too wide. Seriously?!

I ate my first funnel cake, too. Yep. I've never had one before! Where have they been all my life?! They are DELICIOUS. I enjoyed almost every bite. I didn't quite finish. I left with only one other purchase, which was a jar of local honey. Yum!

Since returning home I have lazed about on the couch and hung out with my hubs. Today was a good day. We wish we could go to the state fair tomorrow but the weather is supposed to be not-so-condusive to a day outside. BOO. Guess I'll just stay in and clean, instead.

Blargh.
