That's what Drew kept jokingly singing last week when our first bird's nest experience came to a close. And what an experience it was!
This little story begins with a brand new garden and a darling Mama Bird.
Mama Bird decided to build her nest right on top of the porch pillar in a very safe place.
Pretty soon, Mama Bird had four little baby birds.
One day I got lucky and was able to photograph Mama Bird as she fed her little ones.
(Not all of these are great pictures, unfortunately. The angle from my window was always a challenge)!
Mama Bird would use my hook as a perch to guard her babies
and to spot food to grab.
See her there just above my petunias?
The whole family.
This precious story ends a little sadly, hence the Circle of Life reference. We unexpectedly found that two baby birds did not survive their debut flight. However, we decided that the other two did just fine, even though we didn't actually see them leave the nest. When all of the babies had vacated their first home, we took down the nest. What great craftsmanship!
And check out the tiny eggs from where each baby bird came!
In celebration, my garden began to bloom!
And, as I type this post, Mama Bird has already started to build nest #2 for family #2.
Can't wait to see how this one turns out.
