My Favorite Christmas Movies - Top 10

Today is December 1! That means we have started the "25 days of Christmas" which further means that most television stations have started playing Christmas movies. So, I decided to compile my personal list of favorites. I came up with a top 10 list. It is important to note that I never watch any of these movies except during the month of December, and most of them are watched consistently every year! They couldn't/wouldn't be my favorites if not!

Without furter ado...

10. Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas (animated; 1966)

I love this movie. I love the Whos of Whoville, the Grinch's darling little puppy dog, and his sinister turned sweet self. It's a classic and you just can't go wrong with that.
"He puzzled and puzzed till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. Maybe Christmas, he thought... doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps... means a little bit more!"

9. A Charlie Brown Christmas (animated; 1965)

Another classic here. To me, good ol' Charlie Brown is one of the greatest characters ever created. I adore the entire Peanuts gang and Charlie's hunt to find the true meaning of Christmas really warms my heart.
"Charlie Brown, you're the only person I know who can take a wonderful season like Christmas and turn it into a problem. Maybe Lucy's right. Of all the Charlie Browns in the world, you're the Charlie Browniest."

8. Charles Dickon's A Christmas Carol (multiple years)

It doesn't really matter which version of this story I discuss here, because I love them all. I love the concept of this movie so so so much about giving a second chance at hope on Christmas - the most magical time of the year! I smile too much at the Muppet one, so I chose that.
Gonzo: Hello! Welcome to the Muppet Christmas Carol! I am here to tell the story. Rizzo the Rat: And I am here for the food.

7. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)

Ya'll know this story. Kevin gets separated from his family at Christmas...again. This time he is in New York trying to dodge the bad guys and making sweet new friends along the way. The sequel in this series is lower on my list only because I generally like the originals of a series way better.
"You can mess with a lot of things, but you can't mess with kids on Christmas."
"Don't you know a kid always wins against two idiots?"

6. The Santa Clause (1994)

This is definitely a huge favorite from my childhood. I think Tim Allen is flipping awesome and all things about this movie make my heart swell!
"Who gave you permission to tell Charlie there was no Santa Claus? I think if we're going to destroy our son's delusions, I should be a part of it."
"The Santa Clause: In putting on this suit and entering the sleigh, the wearer waives any and all rights to any previous identity, real or implied, and fully accepts the duties and responsibilities of Santa Claus, in perpetuity until such time that the wearer becomes unable to do so, by either accident or design."

5. A Mom for Christmas (1990)

A lot of ya'll probably won't know this one. I watch it as often as I can every Christmas, if I can find it on TV. That gets more rare, sadly, with every passing year. (I mean, 1990. Sheesh). This is just such a sweet story. A young girl wants only a mom for Christmas and a magic woman in a department store makes her wish come true by making it possible for a mannequin to come to life...but will she get to stay "real?" LOVE IT.
"Wait a minute; have a heart. Santa doesn't know where to start. Solving problems is not his line. It's everyone's - it's yours, it's mine. So if it's the world you want to save, you have to be a lot more brave. So don't put it all on Santa, or some little elf. This is something you do yourself!"

4. Home Alone (1990)

Here we are again! Like I said, the originals are usually the best for me. I can basically quote this movie as I watch it, and when I do, I must follow up immediately by watching the second. As much of a hot mess I think Culkin is now, he will always be Kevin McCallister to me!
"Why the hell you dressed like a chicken?"
"Keep the change ya filthy animal."
"We're the Wet Bandits!"

3. A Christmas Story (1983)

How could this NOT make the list?! I often joke that I do not think I have ever seen this movie from start to finish, literally from the beginning to the end, but yet I have seen the whole thing a million times. Make sense? If you think about the 24 hour marathon every year, you'll get it. I love it, I'll always love it, and I can't wait for it this year...because I will never, ever watch it on any day other than Christmas Day.
"You'll shoot your eye out kid!"
"Getting ready to go to school was like getting ready for extended deep-sea diving."
"Schwartz created a slight breach of etiquette by skipping the triple dare and going right for the throat!"
"Fa-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra!"

2. National Lampoon's A Christmas Vacation (1989)

Again, how could this movie NOT make the list?! I can recite it pretty well by now, too, and I doubt I'll ever let a Christmas go by without watching it at least once. It makes me laugh every. single. time. that I watch it and I just can't get enough.
"This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he's gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse."
"I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is! Hallelujah! Holy shit! Where's the Tylenol?"
"Oh, I was just smelling - smiling. I was just blouse - browsing. I, uh, heh heh. Well, I guess it just wouldn't... Oh hee hee, it wouldn't be the Christmas shopping season if the stores were any less hooter than they - HOTTER than they are. Whew. It is warm in here, isn't it? Yeah, it is a bit nipply out. I mean nippy. What am I saying, nipple?"
"Is Rusty still in the Navy?"

And finally, my number one favorite Christmas movie...

1. Love Actually (2003)

This may surprise you since Love Actually isn't a "traditional" Christmas movie. And it's so much more recent than all of the rest. However, there isn't one thing about this movie that isn't fantastic. A) I love Hugh Grant. In anything. Ever. B) The love story/message is just so perfect, endearing, charming, heartwarming, perfect perfect perfect. C) The writers rocked it out, mixing sweet with funny with sad in an addictive way. D) The cast, along with Hugh, are just so good. So real. You can relate to at least one person, if not more. I swoon, I cry, I adore this movie!!!
"General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaking suspicion... love actually is all around."
"Sam, you've got nothin' to lose, and you'll always regret it if you don't! I never told your mom enough. I should have told her everyday because she was perfect everyday. You've seen the films, kiddo. It ain't over 'til its over."
"But for now, let me say - Without hope or agenda - Just because it's Christmas - And at Christmas you tell the truth - To me, you are perfect - And my wasted heart will love you - Until you look like this." *mummy photo*
"Beautiful Aurelia, I've come here with a view of asking you to marriage me. I know I seems an insane person - because I hardly knows you - but sometimes things are so transparency, they don't need evidential proof. And I will inhabit here, or you can inhabit with me in England."
"Britain. We may be a small country, but we're a great one, too. The country of Shakespeare, Churchill, the Beatles, Sean Connery, Harry Potter. David Beckham's right foot. David Beckham's left foot, come to that."

And there you have it! My long but fun post about my fave Christmas movies. What are yours!
